For those of you new to it, this is an alternative, competitively priced, easy to use, well set up, provider of homely options of accommodation. AirBnB, check it out here:
It’s an online booking platform where individuals let out their spare room, or their whole apartment or house. I’ve used it in Asia and now in Africa but it’s active in 191 countries around the world.
The Benefits of AirBnB include:
- generally, they’re cheaper than hotels
- you have the option to cook
- all basic equipment and household needs are provided for sleeping and cooking eg. bedding, stove, fridge, crockery, heating,
- there’s normally good quality wifi at no extra cost
- some, as the name suggests, provide breakfast (not all though)
- if there’s no one else living in, there will normally be someone to meet you on arrival to provide instructions, explain the location of local conveniences etc
- you get a feel of what it’s like to live like a local as you’re staying in a real home
- if you’re staying in a room-only accommodation you then get the bonus of having someone to chat with and provide advice on all those local questions you might have
It feels like a real home-away-from-home, cause it actually is.
NB. You can sign up/register while on the road but you need to be able to provide a scanned copy of a passport or drivers license.
It’s all about nice, trusting people opening up their home to you. So it’s hopefully only nice, trustworthy people using the service. The owners have the option not to accept your request. And post the vacancy, you both get to write reviews on each other, all in an attempt to keep things good for everyone.
